HOUSE SURGEON SHORTAGE
Minister Calls For Report
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 19.
The Minister of Health (Mr Mason) has called for a full report from the Health Department on the current shortage of house surgeons. The problem may also be examined by the committee currently investigating the availability and distribution of medical practitioners throughout New Zealand. Set up by Mr Mason at the request of the British Medical Association, the committee held its first meeting last month and is due to meet again in March. The committee faces a large amount of preliminary work on what Mr Mason called a “difficult and complex problem." Yesterday, the Hastings Memorial Hospital was reported to be without resident medical staff, in spite of widespread advertising for house surgeons.
