U.S. Rockets For Hawaii
(NX Press Association —Copyrtaht) HONOLULU, January 12. Four Nike-Hercules rocket batteries would be in operation in Hawaii in 1960, extending the United States anti-aircraft defences 2400 miles west of the Pacific coast, the United States Army announced yesterday. The Nike-Hercules batteries, an located on Oahu, will be manned around the clock by Hawaii National Guards who already have been trained on the mainland. “The Nike-Hercules missile has a capability of destroying any known manned aircraft in existence today as well as any oi the air-breathing missiles,” a •Pokesman said. . But the Hercules could not «»tch and destroy intercontinent*l missiles which travelled too and too high for them, he taid.
