ALUMINIUM PROJECT
More Talks In Wellington
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 4.
The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) today met three Australian representatives of Consolidated Zinc, Ltd., and discussed with them proposals for the establishment of an aluminium smelting works in the South Island, using Lakes Manapouri and Te Anau for the source of hydro-electric power. Mr Nash said during a press interview that Messrs D. J. Hibberd, T. Blarney and J. Rodd, representatives of the company, had called on him “in connexion with the aluminium project.” He said that the Government was not yet ready to sign an agreement with the compahy, and that the terms of the agreement were still under consideration. “I still have to satisfy myself that the terms of the agreement will be all right,” said Mr Nash.
When full agreement was reached, the project would be submitted to the Cabinet for a final decision, he said.
