FINED £450 FOR SLY-GROGGING
Carpenter Admits Nine Charges (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. “That takes a bit of the gilt off,” said Mr F. McCarthy, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today in fining Stewart Gordon Annandale, aged 36, carpenter, a total of £450 on nine sly-grog charges. Annandale admitted seven charges of selling liquor without a licence and two of keeping Mquor for sale. Police witnesses described how he conducted a sly-grog business from his home, and though raided once by the police continued his activities and was raided again. The Magistrate said sly-grog places were “a curse” and fined accused £5O on each charge.
