Athletics Vagg To Run In New Zealand

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 30. The Australian 10,000 metres champion. Bob Vagg, will run in New Zealand on December 19. He has had a knee injury for several weeks and was not expected to resume until next year. But today, the secretary of the New South Wales Athletic Association (Mr G. Soper) said: “Vagg has accepted the New Zealand offer and assured me he would be fit. “We may ask him to have a medical examination before he leaves.” Vagg has developed into one of Australia’s top distance runners with wins over the world recordholder, Albert Thomas, and the Empire champion, Dave Power, this year. In New Zealand he will oppose the Olympics runner, Murray Halberg, over three miles and 5000 metres. Thomas was also offered the trip to New Zealand, but he is not forward enough in training.
