Local Elections

Sir, —I read the manifestos of the two major parties for election together with the usual party promises of fine , addresses. I am not particularly impressed by this; it is all so ordinary. When are we likely to have men coming forward without party glamour who will have the courage to stand four-square for the personal interests of their constituents—something that party interests caanot give? 1 would like to hear more of the independent men who have not the “party octopus” behind them. I am quite sure they have good stories to tell and deserve every encouragement at this time.—Yours, etc., W. OLLIVER. November 12, 1959.
