Hailstorm Strikes Wellington
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 4. Heavy falls of hail, accompanied by thunder and lightning, struck Wellington, particularly the hill suburbs, yesterday. The storm struck about 6.10 a.m., but was slow-moving, and some of the more northerly areas did not experience it until after 7 a.m. In some areas the hail was more than an inch thick. In several areas the hail was still lying in patches on roads and lawns at 9.30 a.m., and traffic on the Hutt road and Ngauranga Gorge was still meeting patches of hail by 9 a.m. In some areas rain was also heavy.
