Accident With Saw In Timber Mill
(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI. August 26. A jury in the Supreme Court at Wanganui yesterday decided in favour of Francis Poi. a 25-year-old timber worker. in a claim against the Ketetahi Timber Comnany. Ltd. After the costs of Ihe company and Poi have been deducted, and • after reducing the amount by 10 per cent, for Pol’s negligence. Poi wil] receive £5684 2s lOd •of the £30.000 originally claimed. I Poi had lost an arm from two inches above the elbow in an I accident while employed by [the company. Poi alleged that the company was negligent in that the saw. could revolve before being [switched on. in not providing a brake to stop the saw from reivolving. and, thirdly, in asking: Poi to work under these condi-; itions. } The company, on the other! [hand, said Poi was negligent in
that he had inserted an axe (handle between the turning saw ; and the frame. The company also •claimed Poi was negligent in I‘ailing to take adequate safeguards for his own protection.
