Lightning Boy Wins Wingatui First Leg

“Th« Prtst" Special S«nrtc« DUNEDIN, August 23. Lightning Boy staged a brilliant late run to beat the favourite Promise m the Tally Ho Handleap at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting at Wingatui on Saturday.

Lightning Boy was last at the home turn but he responded to the vigorous riding of his Riccarton jockey A. J. Stokes and crossed the line with only a nose to spare.

Lightning Boy is trained at Washdyke by W. P. Hogan foi Mr J. Y. Scales. He raced disappointingly in his three starts at the Grand National meeting but was third favourite behind Promise and Spiloch on all the machines on Saturday. In a total doubles pool of £18.548, including £2831 on-course. Lightning Boy carried 5787 J 10s tickets and 534 5s tickets were reinvested on Demolish, the surprise winner of the second leg, the Wingatui Handicap. .
