RACING Brilliant Sprint By Treasure Mine

The stablemates Hopeful and Treasure Mine showed high speed in a half-mile sprint on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton on Saturday. The three-year-olds Gladwyn and Gabelle were paired in another very good gßllop. Training was done under good conditions.

Treasure Mine (N. Eastwood) inched into a lead of half a length from his stablemate Hopeful (J. L. Coulter) near the end of half a mile and reeled off the distance in 48 l-ssec. ' Treasure Mine had the better of the weights in this test with her better-performed stablemate, but it was an encouraging trial for the Eiffelton Hack Handicap at Ashburton on Friday. Hopeful has no engagement at Ashburton this week. His spring programme will include races at Trentham in October. Gladwyn (A. H. Eastwood) and Gabelle (K. Reggett) went fast under light weights over seven furlongs, especially in the last half mile or so. They recorded Imin 32 l-ssec for the distance and 50sec for the last half mile. Gladwyn is a form runner for the Rakaia Three-Year-Old Handicap at Ashburton. After that he will go north for,the Wanganui Guineas, in which R. J. Skelton will ride him. Royal Avon (C. T. Wilson) and Rathfarham (K. Reggett) were abreast two lengths ahead of Rayspar (P. J. Kempton) after running a mile in Imin 45sec. They recorded 514-ssec for the last half mile. Royal Avon is one of the lightweights in the Ashburton Cup on Friday. Last start he was sixth in the Canterbury Jockey Club’s August Handicap. Strong Finish The stablemates Bobwood (T. Wilson) and Abou Ben Adhem (G. Baldwin) ran a mile on terms in Imin 47 l-ssec. It was a good time considering they took 15 4-ssec for the first furlong. They ran the last half mile strongly in 51 3-ssec. Mozart (S. J. Martin) took Imin 49 4-ssec for his mile and 53 1-osec for the last half. Skyrider (J. Leach) and Spanish Main (N. Eastwood) ran seven furlongs rather leisurely in Imin 36-2-ssec. They took 54sec for the last half mile. King Lyn (P. J. Kempton) and Kaseno (R. E. Johnstone) were running side by side about a length ahead of Nehru (J. L. Coulter) finishing seven furlongs in Imin 34 l-ssec. They sprinted the last half mile in 51 3-ssec, Kaseno carried more weight than King Lyn, giving away more than the 31b that separates them in the Fairfield Hack Handicap at Ashburton. The stablemates Purser (R C. Browning) and Fair Catch ' (L. McGuire) recorded Imin 47 2-ssec for their mile. The pace dropped away after they ran the first half mile in 52 3-ssec. Purser’s next race will be the Ashburton Cup. He has placed form over 11 furlongs. Shoal (C. McDonald) and Pleasant Ways (W. Beck) ran seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-ssec, the last four in 52 l-ssec. Kelp (W. Donovan) was to have accompanied them, but lagged behind early. He sprinted six furlongs

in Imin 21sec, the last half mile in 53 3-ssec.

Royal Warrant (I. Peters) ran a mile in Imin 48 2-ssec. He finished a length behind Search Warrant (N. Eastwood) and Jimmy Hill (W. Hanlin), which joined in for the last six furlongs, and recorded Imin 22 l-ssec. They ran the last half mile in 54 2-ssec. Corowa (M. Wildermoth) drew up to Magic Circle (P. J. Kempton) near the end of a mile, run in Imin 48 2-ssec, the last half in 53 2-ssec. Montreux (N. Cowles) started with them, but felt the strain outside the furlong, and dropped back. The stablemates Captain Hunt (B. S. Dodds) and Amazing (N. Eastwood) dashed over half a mile on terms in 49 4-ssec. Disorder (A. H. Eastwood) and Studio (N. Eastwood) recorded 514-ssec for the last four of six furlongs. Studio led for a time early, but they finished a good trial on terms. Breaker (N. Eastwood) and Pitch (J. L. Coulter) sprinted from the half mile in 52 l-ssec. Surrend ( C. T. Wilson) was going easily a length and a half ahead of her stablemate Half Volley (Miss F. Kerr) finishing h-lf a mile in 52 4-sses. Surrend should take beating over seven furlongs in the Eiffelton Hack Handicap at Ashburton. Motueka (L. McGuire) sprinted half a mile in 52 2-ssec. He starts another campaign at Ashburtpn. Bagman (N. Eastwood) took 55 l-ssec for his half mile. Eastwood eased him right up near the post. He thought Bagman was sore, but the Lucky Bag gelding was all right when he pulled up. Bobbie Burns (L. McGuire) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 20 3-ssec, the last four in 52 2-ssec. He is one of the light-weights in the Flying Handicap at Ashburton. Solaris (O. Anning) led Rustic (L. J. Ellis) by two lengths and was well clear of Sarcelle (N. East wood) after running six furlongs, the last four in 521-ssec. Solaris was in front from the start. Last Link (S. J. Martin) was going nicely alongside his stablemate Awatere (W. Hanlin) after running six furlongs in Imin 18 3-ssec, the last four in 51 l-ssec. Awatere drew level in the last few strides. Last Link did his work attractively. His was a good trial for the Rakaia Handicap at Ashburton. The stablemates Kastanea (G. Baldwin) and Quick Time (T. Wilson) ran from the seven furlongs, and did well to record 51 l-ssec for the final four. Balance (R. L. Browning) outjumped his more experienced stablemate Saltash (J. L. Coulter) at the last flight to finish a round of hurdles with a short lead. Saltash jumped the second hurdle brilliantly. He is engaged at Ashburton,
