Brilliant Speed
Brilliant displays of speed were returned by Durban Chief And Cadueeus at Addington on Saturday. Durban Chief equalled the New Zealand record of 3min 25 l-ssec, held by Dictation, when he was third In the Winter Handicap; Cadueeus returned 2min 35sec for the 10 furlongs when winning the f Farewell Handicap. Durban Chief was privately timed to trot his last mile and a half in 3min 5 3-ssec, the opening quarter in 31 l-seec, half-mUe in 61 3-ssec, six furlongs in Imin 33sec, mile in 2min ssec, and mile and a quarter in 2min 35 l-ssec. Cadueeus was privately timed from post to post In his race and his time was 2min 33 l-ssec. He took 29 for his first quarter, 58 4-ssec for his half-mile, Imin 31 3-ssec for his first six furlongs and 2min 2 4-ssec for the mile.
