FATAL COLLISION ON HIGHWAY
Two Men Killed, Five Injured (New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE, August 2. Two men died and five people were injured when two cars collided on the Whakatane-Rotorua State highway at the Awakeri Hall about 9 o’clock on Friday night. The men who died were: Samuel James Morland, aged about 21, single, workman, of Edgecumbe. Arthur McDermott, aged 52, stationmaster, of Kawerau.
Persons injured in Mr Morland's car were Paul Pakitutahi, aged 28, of Edgecumbe, and his wife, Hilda Pakitutahi. Injured in Mr McDermott’s car were Mrs Violet Columb, aged 40, and her two sons, Michael, aged 11, and Neil, aged 12, of- 44 Hall street, Kawerau.
