“Biblically Illiterate”
Sir, —I got rather a jolt when a lad who had shown himself rather clever and well-informed by his answers in a radio quiz was completely stumped when asked, "What is the Golden Rule?" Apparently he had never heard of it. Is this riffht in a Christian country? From being taught in boyhood, I can still write it in two ways. "Jesus said, 'Do unto others as ye would that they should do to you’.” A Scots version: “We uns should do to you uns as we would have you uns do to we uns." Surely one of the soundest principles for good conduct. —Yours, etc., FRED T. MILES. Ashburton, July 29, 1959.
