Wairakei Road
Sir,- The disrepair into which Wairakei road has fallen is scandalous and motorists brave enough to use this “highway” are in dire danger of damaging their vehicles severely. The condition of the road has passed from that of a cattle track to that of a sticky, smelly morass and this has not been remedied by punitive attempts with heaps of bitumen. I hope the council will make some attempt to remedy this complaint. Near the junction of Grahams road a veritable crevasse hrs appeared.—Yours, etc., TWISTED CHASSIS. June 29, 1959. [The acting city engineer (Mr A. H. Jecks) said that Wairakei road, at its intersection with Grahams road, was not in the city. No extensive work in the portion of Wairakei road which lies within the city was contemplated until work on the installation of the new trunk sewer was completed.]
