Donnelly’s Record Broken
(N.Z Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, July 17. Tne New Zealander Martin Donnellys record for the highest score since the war in the J->entlemen-Players’ match was broken today by the Warwickshire captain, Mike Smith, playing for the Gentlemen. Smith made 166, passing Donnelly's 162 not out in 1947. When he had made three he became the first batsman to reach 2000 runs this season The match was drawn, with the Plavers making no attempt to chase the 149 runs in 80 minutes they needed 'to win after Peter Mav had declared the Gentlemen’s second innings closed at five for 319. Tie Gentlemen made 194 in their first innings. The Players made 365 and 49 without loss.
