LENDING OF GREENS

Council Amends Rule

(New Zeatana Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 24.

The council of the New Zealand Bowling Association decided today to amend its rule governing the extent to which affiliated clubs can make their greens available to outside organisations. In future no affiliated club can allow its greens to be used for a tournament or match by any organisation other than the New Zealand Bowling Association or its centres or affiliated clubs except under certain conditions. (1) If entries are not invited from players outside the centre to which the club so lending its green or greens is attached, permission shall first have been obtained from such centre or its executive. If entries are invited from outside such centre, permission shall first have been obtained from the administration committee of the New Zealand Bowling Association. (2) All competitors in any such tournament or match shall be members of clubs affiliated to the New Zealand association or to some other bowling organisation recognised by the association. It was emphasised that the amendment did not limit the right of a club, subject to any necessary approval from its centre, to lend its green or greens to any trade or social organisation for a social game to which no group of players comes from outside the centre principally to take part. ‘‘The reason why the executive of the council has brought forward this amendment is to prevent a recurrence of ■what cropped up in Hawke’s Bay last season.” said Dr R. E. Austin, president of the association. ‘‘Last season the Hawke’s Bay Centennial Association proposed to conduct a large mixed tournament, and nine clubs in that centre promised greens. Had the arrangements been carried through we had the prospect of an outside organisation conducting a major tournament, but the clubs withdrew their offer once the position was realised.”
