N.Z. TOURNAMENT FOR DUNEDIN
Fours Approved As First Event (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 24. The 1960 annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowding Association, which is to be held in Dunedin. will start with the fours competition on Monday. January 4. At the annual meeting of the association today, delegates from the 22 bowling centres throughout the country approved the starting date, but there was opposition to the starting dates suggested for the singles and pairs competitions, January 11 and January 13 respectively. After discussion, councillors decided to switch those dates, making the pairs start on Monday, January 11, and the singles on Wednesday. January 13. Closing date for entries will be Friday. October 23, at 5 p.m. The tournament secretary appointed was Mr G. J. Marsh, of Dunedin, who acted in that capacity when Dunedin was the venue for the 1956 tournament. Grants approved were £2OO to the Institute of Turf Culture and £5O to the Bowling Umpires’ Association. For the current year a levy of Is will be imposed on all bowlers, together with an Empire Games levy of 3d which is expected to produce £3600 over three years.
