QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY PARADE

21-Gun Salute From River Bank There will be a 21-gun salute from guns on the Avon river bank and a parade of all three services in Cathedral square next Monday. June 1, to celebrate the official birthday of the Queen. A guard of honour of 50 men from Burnham military camp, commanded by Captain J. Rathbun. will be inspected by the Mayor (Mr G. Manning), who will also give an address. The parade marshal will be Major J. W. Beaumont.

A dais for the official party and seating for the official guests will be erected in the square between the Cathedral and the Godley statue. The ceremony will start at 10.30 a.m. and the parade area will be sealed off at 10.15 a.m. As the guard of honour presents arms for the Royal Salute the Royal Standard will be broken out from a specially constructed flag pole in fhe centre of the square, the band of the First Canterbury Regiment will play the Nationa‘l Anthem and the first round of the 21-gun salute will ring out. Communications between the square and E Troop of the 163rd Battery, whose guns will be on the river bank at Cambridge terrace opposite Southern Military District Headquarters, will be provided by Southern District Signals Troop.
