TRAMPING CLUB’S EXCURSIONS
Mt. Cook Area Visits This Week-End
Queen’s Birthday week-end will be a busy one for the Christchurch Tramping Club. Today at 7 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. two parties of trampers will leave Christchurch by bus for the Mount Cook national park where they hope to arrive about 2.30 a.m. tomorrow.
Accommodation will be found for the trampers in huts belonging to the Canterbury Mountaineering Club and the Youth Hostels’ Association. and even in the buses.
Later tomorrow the trampers will leave for tours to the Mueller. Hooker, and Ball huts. The trampers hope to be back in the city by midnight on Monday. Further tours are planned during the next two months. On June 7, an “easy” tramp from the Sugar Loaf to Rapaki track is intended for “day trippers.” On June 14, - a mid-winter tramp will be made over Banks Peninsula covering the Okuti valley, French peak and Harman’s track.
A more difficult tramp is planned for the week-end of June 20; 21, with Campbell pass as the objective. A Mount Evans trip will be attempted also on June 21. The week-end of June 27, 28 is the date for a tramp in the Lewis Pass area, from Nina. Devilskin saddle to Doubtful. Warm clothes will be essential for the climb on Mount Hutt <7lBoft) the following week-end.
The trampers will have a pleasant walk to Diamond Harbour and home again on the week-end following that, July 12. On June 11, the club will hold a social in the Y.M.C.A. with Scottish and country dancing and community singing. *
