Cricket OVERSEAS COACH

Application To Be Made The Canterbury Cricket Association decided on Tuesday evening to apply to the New Zealand Cricket Council for an > overseas coach, and to draw up for the council a programme to be followed by the coach. Outlining the recommended programme for the coach, Mr C. G. Hamilton said that selected players should be coached for three seasons. The players would be divided into three groups—lo primary schoolboys, 10 secondary schoolboys, and 10 colts, who would perhaps be under 22. Mr Hamilton said that the competitions committee also recommended a coaching school with a diploma course of group coaching for primary and secondary school masters, teachers* college students, selected club members and physical education member* and country players. Other proposals were that a coaching school be held during the school holidays and that the coach be made available to secondary schools on certain mornings of the week during the school year. After a long discussion on the recommendations, Mr I. A. Baxter moved that the groups to be coached comprise a selected number of players rather than the restricted number of 10. This was carried, and the other recommendations of the coaching committee were adopted in principle. To try to promote a more vigorous accroach to club cricket, the competitions committee recommended a return to Saturday morning play in the senior competition. The association will make a decision on the committee’s recommendations later.
