APPEAL FOR CHAPELS
Figure Exceeds £19,000 Money given for the Combined Hospital Chapels Appeal had now passed the half-way target mark and totalled more than £19,000, said the organiser of the appeal (Mr A. Prentice) last evening, “Christchurch people are making a grand response,’’ said Mr Prentice. “During the day the envelope collection has grown to £7765 5s 8d and money is still coming in. In spite of the difficult weather, collectors are sticking to their jobs and it is hoped the work will be completed by Saturday’’ Anyone who still had an envelope that had not been collected after Saturday was requested to leave it at any church service on Sunday or with their nearest clergyman. The wishing well installed at the Industries Fair by nurses at Sunnyside Hospital had £lO in it after the first day, said Mr Prentice. He had also received gifts of money from two people as far south as Stewart Island. The general plan for the country collection had now been made final and would be put into operation in the near future, when every home would have an opportunity to contribute to the appeal
