Motor-Racing N.Z. GRAND PRIX ORGANISATION
Administrative Change May Be Made
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 6.
Changes in the organisation of New Zealand International Grand Prix Incorporated were foreshadowed at a meeting of the board of control last night
After a discussion in committee on proposals for changes to the rules made by Mr T. E. Clark, jun., the meeting elected a committee, under the chairmanship of the vice-president (Mr W. D. Bell) to investigate the rules and bring down a report. The other members of the committee are Messrs Clark, M. Grierson, G. O. Wiles and D. Beasley. Mr Clark then withdrew a notice of motion which he had tabled.
Earlier in the meeting, the president (Mr W. H. Knox) had said that a sub-committee had spent a considerable amount of time compiling a comprehensive report on the administration of the organisation. He felt that when this was considered by the executive much more satisfactory administrative arrangements could be made than those in the past. The possibility of next year’s New Zealand Grand Prix meeting being postponed to a date later than usual was raised when Mr L. McLaren said that he understood that the American Grand Prix would be held at Sebring on December 12 of this year. This would make it impossible for the top-line European cars and drivers to be in Auckland before January 6. The provisional date for the next New Zealand Grand Prix was January 12. Mr McLaren also said that the Cooper organisation was willing to send a complete team of three formula Q cars —three cars and three drivers—to New Zealand for the next Grand Prix. Mr Knox said that immediate investigations would be made to ensure that suitable dates could be arranged.
