£10m Drainage Scheme
Auckland has now spent almost £6 million on the new Manukau drainage scheme. Figures released by the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Board last night show that up to April 20 it had raised £5,966,040 in loans and spent all but £9727. The cost of the first stage of the scheme, the most modern of its type in the world, is £10.4 million. The board has planned an expenditure this year of £3.5 million on the Manukau project and the existing system. If loan money can be raised the first stage should be in service by November next year.—(P.A.)
