ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE

Man Found Guilty And Remanded

(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, May 6. One of three men jointly charged with robbery with violence was found guilty in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North yesterday. His companions were found guilty of an alternative charge of causing actual bodily harm. The man convicted on a charge of robbery with violence was Lance Tuatea Rawhiti. The jury found his companions, Graham Edward Larwood and Kingi Rawhiti, guilty of the joint charge of assault.

The charges arose out of an attack which was made on the principal of the New Zealand Missionary College, Alfred Frederick John Kranz, at Longburn on March 13. He was robbed of a wristlet watch and 7s. Mr Justice McGregor was on the bench, Mr J. A. Ongley appeared for the Crown and the three prisoners were represented by Mr H. Y. Gilliand, with him Mr T. J. Loughnan. The prisoners were remanded until Wednesday, May 13, when sentence will be imposed. The prosecution evidence followed the lines of that given in the recent Magistrate’s Court hearing, where it was told how Mr Kranz, returning to his home at the college after a meeting, investigated a noise in his garden and was set upon by three men, and how, after a struggle in which he suffered a severe cut on his head, he found his wristlet watch and 7s were missing.
