Committed For Trial On Theft Charges
(New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE, May 6.
The preliminary hearing of charges against Michael Patrick Joseph Moroney, aged 38, former union secretary, was completed at Whakatane today. Having elected trial by jury on 63 charges of theft, false pretences and forgery, Moroney was remanded on bail to the Supreme Court at Gisborne and ordered to report to the police twice a week. Charges against Moroney related to his duties as Whakatane branch secretary and national secretary of the Auckland and Otago and Southland Wood-pulp, Paper and Paper Products Industrial Union of Workers.
