Australian Wool Cheque Falls

Wool brought in £ A 146.959.225 from Australian auctions in the seven months to January 31, compared with £A213,592,143 for the same seven months in 1957-58. The seven-months’ cheque came from the auction of 2,497,904 bales of wool against 2,568,889 bales in the previous corresponding period. The average value of greasy wool was £ASB 17s 5d a bale (46.40 d per lb) against £AB3 Is 5d a bale (67.72 d per lb) in the same period a year ago. The National Council of Wool Selling Brokers of Australia say that at the final sales for January, 1959, a better tone was reported. Rates Were fully 2j per cent above previous quotations with some wools up to 4 per cent, dearer.
