INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE

Fleeces Firm On Christchurch (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, February 16. The market for fleece wool at today’s Invercargill wool sale may be quoted as ■ being very firm on Christchurch rates, although a slight easing was evident towards the end of the sale, says the official report. Very coarse types were inclined to be a little easier, while lambs wool and oddments were inclined in filers’ favour. The report states: “The third main sale of the Southland season opened this morning. The bulk of the offering 'was ewe wool with the rest consisting of woolly hoggets arid lambs fleece, and a fairly large selection of oddments. The wool opened up in good condition, marred only by some tenderness in the staple. Woolly hoggets were not up to the usual standard but lambs and oddments showed up well. The. mud showing in oddments at previous sales this season was absent.

“The continental section of the trade dominated the buying today for all types of fleece, finer woolly hoggets and oddments. The United Kingdom market took its share only of the coarser hoggets, while Japan bought, Southdown and Southdown cross and the United States -/the coarse carpet wools. A local mill operated on the few Merinos and half breeds offering.

“Only on a few occasions was the New Zealand Wool Commission called upon to bid and then only on the finer wools. About 26,500 bales were sold today and a similar quantity will be offered on Wednesday. Range of Prices
