PRESERVATION OF BUSH
Recognition Of Work By Mr Corbett
(New Zeaiana Pres» Association> NEW PLYMOUTH, January 21. In spite of a quickening of spirit among most people toward the' conservation of forests, there were still too many who regarded a tree as so many board feet, said the former Minister of Land and Forests (Mr E. B. Corbett) in his reply after receiving the Dominion’s premier horticultural award, the Loder Cup, in a ceremony at New Plymouth last night. “I am pleased that I was able to add to our public estate in the shape of national parks and. domains, but there are people who want to put baches on them,” he said. ‘‘l think that they should be preserved untouched.” The bill for erosion in this country had never been computed, and preservation of bush helped in checking erosion, said Mr Corbett.
