TUG WRECKS BRIDGE
Vessel Later Runs Aground
(New Zealand Press AMociation) GREYMOUTH, Dec. 10. The Greymouth Harbour Board’s tug. Kumea, collided with a foot bridge over the Blaketown lagoon—stern-on—about .J,® this afternoon.
Although it Is thought that the tug was not damaged, the bridge had a complete section ripped away. The tug later ran aground at the entrance to the lagoon, and tonight is waiting for full tide, when it will be refloated. One of the Harbour Board’s employees displayed courage when he allowed himself to be lowered on a crane-hook, to place wire ropes on the damaged portion of the bridge and enabled it to be hoisted up for repair. The exact cause of the accident is not known, nor how long it will take to effect complete repairs to the bridge.
