FARMER TO VISIT TASMANIA
Mr R. Currie, Of Blenheim j Mr Raymond Currie, a BlenI heim farmer, aged 22, and a I descendant of one of the earliest I families which settled in New Zealand, was selected yesterday from five entrants to visit Tasmania as a representative of the Canterbury Council of the Young Farmers’ Federation. Mr Currie’s trip will be sponsored by the Bank of New Zealand. Born in Blenheim. Mr Currie was educated at Marlborough College and Then went to Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincoln, where he completed his diploma of agriculture. He then began farming on his present 200acre property, a few miles east of Blenheim. Mr Currie is the fifth generai tion of his family to farm this • property. His ancestors came out | to Nelson in the 184 D’s and shifted to Marlborough in 1855, when I they settled on the present property. The farm at present carries j 750 Corriedale ewes, and light ! cropping is carried out. Mr Currie is chairman of thei Blenheim Young Farmers’ Club, and has always taken a part in farming activities. He has been a prominent debater in the Young Farmers’ Club. reaching the Canterbury final in the Dominion competition. He also does some flying. The exchange, one of six to Australia this year, is organised by the federation and sponsored by the Bank of New Zealand. Mr Currie will leave New Zealand on January 7 for Melbourne, and from there will go to Tasmania to study farming techniques and farm youth organisations. On March 19 he will go to Sydney, to attend the Sydney Royal Show camp, until March 27. He will leave for New Zealand in the Monowai on April 7.
