RACING Riccarton Team Will Be Trained At Omoto

The Riccarton trainer, G. R. Pellinc, will set up temporary training quarters for his team on the West Coast He left last evening for Greymouth with seven horses. Durlne their stay, which at present is of an undetermined length, the horses will be accommodated on the Greymouth Jockey Club's course at Omoto.

The team includes Fern. Ghana. Lucky Sal, Post, Pyrites and two. unraced three-year-olds. They are Silver Coral, a filly by Blue Coral out of Silver Sal. and Sleat, a half-sister by Coral Arc to Money-go-Round. It is probable that all except Sleat will race at the Greymouth Club’s two day fixture on November 29 and December 1. followed by the Reefton Jockey Club’s meeting on December 6.

Nehru is the only active member of the team which will not make the trip. He will remain at Riccarton where his training will be restricted to a course of schooling The two-year-old My Fair Lady has been turned out for a spell.

The decision to move the other active members of his team to Omoto was made because their training has had to be restricted on the flint-like tracks at Riccarton after the prolonged dry spell in Canterbury. Hard tracks have caused constant concern to local trainers in recent months. The latest casualty was Riccarton’s top stayer last season, Teaka. which bowed a tendon during the running of the Canterbury Cup last week. Eleven days earlier G. R. Felling lost the services of the good staying mare Money-go-Round, which broke down in the Buchanan Memorial Handicap at Motukarara Liban at Riccarton Li ban was not taken south when his Gore trainer, E. A. Winsloe, returned home after the New Zealand Cup meeting. The Super five-year-old has been left in the care of the veteran Riccarton trainer, H. Nurse, until next week-end when Winsloe is due to return to Riccarton Although no definite decision has yet been made it is likely that Liban will be taken north next week for a campaign which will include a start in the Auckland Cup on January 1. Liban has come through his strenuous campaign at Riccarton in splendid order His failure in the Metropolitan Handicap on Saturday was slightly disappointing after his decisive win in the Jockey Club Handicap, run in race record time, four days earlier It is likely, however, that he was still feeling the effects of that effort when paraded on the last day of the meeting. If he holds his present form Liban should have little difficulty extending his record in the north

Olympic Flame’s Complaint Olympic Flame, which had to be scratched from the Otaio Plate at Riccarton on Saturday because of an attack of colic, is making a good recovery She showed no signs of distress after being exercised at Riccarton yesterday morning It was unfortunate for Olympic Flame’s Riccarton owner, Mrs W A. Welton, that the Cassock mare went amiss on the eve of Riccarton *s richest hack race, for she appeared to be close to peak form again On the second day of the meeting Olympic Flame had been a strong finisher for third behind McCool and Hauparu Bay in the Ashley Hack Handicap. Teaka, which bowed his tendon during the running of the Canterbury Cup, ha» been let down and will be given a light blister and

turned out within the next week or two. His Riccarton trainer, W. A. Welton, said yesterday that although the tendon has thickened the bow is not as pronounced as usual and he hopes it will respond quickly to treatment Unraced Filly Dies The Riccarton trainer, C. G. Humphries, had the misfortune to lose the promising unraced filly Dizzy, which died on Tuesday morning after injuring herself in a yard. Although the cause of the accident is not known it has been established that she fractured her pelvis. Her death is thought to have been caused by an internal hemorrhage. Dizzy was owned by Mr G. Trolove, of Ashburton. She was a three-year-old by Cassock from the Finis mare Silver Spray. Silver Spray’s first foal. Final Score, which was by Balloch. is a top class galloper in Japan.
