PARLIAMENT’S DIARY

Yesterday provided a session record for slow progress. In spite of the fact that shortly after 2.30 p.m., urgency was taken on the remaining 19 bills on the Order Paper, by midnight only three of these had been passed through their committee stages. These were the Transport Amendment No 2 Bill, the Air Services Licensing x Amendment Bill, and the War-Pensions Amendment Bill. .

The Social Security Amendment Bill of 27 clauses and several schedules occupied the House throughout the evening session.

An all-night session was indicated because the business still to be dealt with at midnight consisted of -seven bills in the committee stage and 10 bills which have yet to have their second reading.
