MILL BURNT TO GROUND
£22,000 Damage At Taupo (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 22. Fire completely destroyed a sawmill and its contents owned by East Coast Sawmills (Napier), Ltd., at the northern end of Taupo early this morning. The estimated damage is £22.000, which is covered by insurance. The alarm was given at 1.15 a.m. and when the fire brigade arrived the mill was blazing from end to end. About two minutes later the walls collapsed. Mr E. H. Pardon, managingdirector of the company, was at the mill about 9 o’clock on Saturday night and everything was in order. , A new band saw installed recently and expected to (jpuble the output of the mill was among the pile of smouldering wreckage.
