Concert Programmes

Sir,—l, too, wish to protest at the cynical attitude of concert promoters and their unfair treatment of music lovers in this city. Judging by recent advertisements they believe a music lover to be a person of autograph-hunting mentality who will go to the theatre to hear the celebrity, regardless of the music the celebrity may perform. But worse, a music-lover, it seems, is also a gambler who will trustingly send off a cheque to suffer the delight or despair of finding himself in the front row circle; behind a pale which obstructs his vision; or below the level of the stage, where the performer can scarcely be seen. Unless the public are assured that preferential booking is limited to the best seats, the system cannot be regarded as anything but a racket.—Yours etc., VALERIE O. HEINZ. June 22, 1958.
