Harriers EDMOND CUP RACE
Christchurch Team Second “The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, June 22. Caversham, winners of the Kennett Cup teams’ race in Christchurch a month ago, won in Otago's harrier steeplechase for the Edmond Cup at Wingatui racecourse on Saturday. • beating the Christchurch team by eight points. Led by New Zealand harrier champion, Kerry Williams, the Chistchurch team scored 87 points against Caversham’s 79. Wingatui was very heavy, and Williams, who has not run on a really heavy course since he left Dunedin at the end of the last harrier season, could not foot it with his old rival, P. Sidon (Caversham). Sidon crossed the line after three miles and a quarter, 150 yards ahead of Williams, with the North Otago runner, T. Marshall, in third place.
Williams's brother, John, ran very to finish sixth, the first junior home. B. Skinner (Caversham), who was second to Williams in the Kennett Cup race, finished eighth. Christchurch’s first six runners were the Williams brothers, W. Kennedy (11), C. McGuire (18), N. Fleming (21), and B. Mogridge (29). Results:—
