VAMPIRES FOR OAMARU
Minister’s Promise To Aero Club
There is only a grass airstrip at Hilderthorpe, the Oamaru airport, but the Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly), has promised the North Otago Aero Club two R.N.Z.AJ’. Vampires for its pageant on April 12—and has said that they are to land there. The Vampires are to do aerobatics over the field, but if they cannot land they will have to carry long-range wing tanks, which will make aerobatics impossible.
Last evening Mr Connolly was in a mood to brush aside any protests about the suitability of the field, and said he intended to see that the Vampires would land at Hilderthorpe, and provide an aerobatic display, as promised.
“They have a sound little club down there—2oo members and 70 trainees, and they have only been established two years. This pageant is to raise funds for a hangar, and is a well worthwhile show." said the Minister.
