RED FLAG TO BE FLOWN

Labour Councils Decision LONDON, March 19. The Labour-controlled St. Pancras Borough Council tonight decided to fly the red flag over the Town Hall during May Day Labour celebrations in spite of angry protests from the public gallery. At one point, demonstrators showered the councillors with leaflets reading: “No red flags here.”

They chanted: “The reds, the reds, we’ve got to get rid of the reds.” '

Then a group of women counter-attacked by standing up and singing “The Red Flag.” The Mayor ordered all spectators to be cleared from the gallery. During the debate, Cr. W. T. Donovan, the leader of the Conservative group, said: “This is a deplorable position.” The red flag was the flag of international communism, he added. Cr. John Lawrence, the Labour leader, said: “We shall still fly the red flag over the Town Hall and for my money, over Buckingham Palace as well.”
