MY FRIEND FORM HORSE AT WAIMATE

Silver King, in the Waimate J Cup, and My Friend, in' the Morven Handicap, will form a popular combination with double investors at the Waimate Racing Club’s annual meeting today. Both raced prominently in their engagement: at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s fixture last weekend, and Silver King’s track work at Wingatui has indicated that he will be at his peak for the Waimate Cup. Whiohau, which was considered the strongest of the Riccarton representatives , in the Waimate Cup, will race at Trentham. In his absence, hopes for a local victory will rest with his stablemate, the top-weight, Toparoa, Pack Drill and Cruising. Pack Drill makes most appeal. Cruising, the Greymouth Cup and Kettle Memorial Handicap winner at the Greymouth meeting, has been rehandicapped 31b to 8-0 in the cup. The Gore-trained light-weight, Demolish, is expected to do best of the others. In the second leg, Kinsimm, Lucky Sal and Grey Light, all of which have good recent form backgrounds, are expected to offer most opposition to My Friend. Panda, the early favourite for the Trial Plate, was scratched from that event yesterday, and Bonny Pippin, the top-weight in the Studholme Intermediate Hack Handicap, will not fulfil his engagement. There was rain in Waimate on Thursday, but the weather cleared yesterday and the track is expected to be in good order.
