PUBLIC NOTICES E fl CHRISTCHURCH NOTICE IS HEREBY’ GIVEN that the 142nd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the CHRISTCHURCH RETURNED SERVICES’ ASSOCIATION (Inc.) will be held in the JELLICOE HALL. Christchurch R.S.A. premises, 71 Gloucester street, Christchurch on ( - TUESDAY. MARCH 25, 1958, AT 7.45 P.M. BUSINESS11—Minutes of last Annual General ■ I Meeting to be read and confirmed. 2 Matters arising from Minutes. 3 Adoption of .Annual Report and Balance Sheet for the year ended December 31, 1957. 4 Election of Executive Committee and Officers for the year ended ! December 31, 1958. 5 Notices of Motion. Due Notice having been given it is proposed that the following Rules of the Association be amended: MOTION No. 1 RULE lI—INTERPRETATION: Delete all of Rule 11. Substitute: . “The word ‘serviceman’ in these Rules shall mean, any member of Her Majesty’s Forces, whether on land, sea or air. The term ‘Returned Serviceman’ shall mean (A) a person who (a) served (i) overseas from the place of mobilisation in or with Her Majesty’s Forces in anv war waged by the Crown prior to the official dates of the cessation of hostilities (save and except all those already accepted as members’ of local Associations as at 31st March, 1946) or (ii) in any actual theatre of war as may be defined by the Dominion Executive Committee from time to time, or (iii) in any state of hostilities as may be deemed a war by such Dominion Executive t Committee, or (iv) in any operational area as may be defined by the Dominion Executive Committee from time to time, or (v) in accordance with the preceding provisions of this Rule, notwithstanding that such person may remain a member of Her Majesty’s Forces, or (vi) in or with the British Merchant Navy (British Mercantile Marine) and who possesses one of the following qualifications: (a) had during the 1914-18 war served on transports in war zones and has been awarded the British War Medal and Mercantile Marine Medal, or (b) has ■ made at least one trip outside New Zealand territorial waters as a member of the crew of a foreign going or inter-colonial vessel between 3rd September, 1939. and the official date of the cessation of hostilities with Japan (i.e. 2nd September. 1945), or •(c) has served in any vessel which has been in actual engagement with the enemy. and (b) in all cases has been honourably discharged except that a person defined as a ‘Returned Serviceman’ by (A) (a) fv) hereof may subsequent to the termination of his service with Her Mayesty's Forces be called upon by the Dominion ! Executive Committee, any local Association or the Central Returned Services Association to submit evidence of his honourable discharge from such Forces. If the discharge of such person is other than honourable, or • if the evidence referred to is not submitted, then the active membership of such » person of any local Associaj tion or of the Central Returned Services’ Association will cease forthwith. • (B) Any British subject who has served as a member of the Armed Forces of an Ally of ■ New Zealand or Great Britain . and has been honourably dis- ' charged therefrom, or (C) Any person who has served as a member of the Armed Forces of any Ally of New Zealand and who is a naturalised subject of any part of the British Empire or Commonwealth of Nations provided that such person in all other respects is eligible and has been honourably discharged from the Armed Forces in which he served in such- cir- « cumstances which in the sole 1 opinion of the Dominion Executive Committee comply with this Rule or discharged in such terms as may be prescribed from time to time by the Dominion Executive Committee, or - (D) Any person who has served as a member of the crew of a merchant vessel under the flag of any Ally of New Zealand who is a naturalised subject of any part of the British Empire or ' Commonwealth of Nations and ’ who either: ’ (i) during the 1914-18 war served in transports in war 5 zones. ; or (ii) between the 3rd Septem5 her, 1939, and the 2nd September, 1945, served beyond the territorial waters of his ship’s country on service for the furtherance of the common allied cause, or (iii) has been in actual engagement with the enemy in ■ that vessel. t and who in the sole opinion of the Dominion Executive Committee is in all respects a person eligible and suitable to be j a member of the Association. Any question arising between any applicant for membership and any local Association as to whether such person is or is not eligible for membership shall be referred to the Dominion Executive Committee, whose decision shall be final and binding. MOTION NO. 2 RULE lII—OBJECTS:

Rule 111 Clause (vili). ADD new para: "That in the event of the wind-ing-up of any organisation within • the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association, whether incorporated or not, the assets of such organisation or organisation shall as of right pass to the Association, and in the event of a prior wind-ing-up of the Association such assets shall be disposed of in accordance with the provisions for winding up of the Association. MOTION NO. 3 RULE IV—MEMBERSHIP: Rule IV Clause (iv). Conditions of Membership: Para (a) ADD after word "allowance” "plus a War Disability Pension rated at not more than 40 per cefit. permanent disablement.” ADD after word “subscription” in last line "Honorary Active -Life Membership shall be awarded to all veterans of the South African War who served with the New Zealand Contingent or other Imperial Forces.” , Para <e) After the word "the” in lone four DELETE the word "Secretary.” Substitute the word "SecretaryTreasurer.” After the words “to the” in last line DELETE the word "Secretary.” Substitute the word "Sec-retary-Treasurer.” Para (k) After the word "and” in line six DELETE the word "Secretary ” Substitute the word “SecretaryTreasurer.” MOTION NO. 4 RULE VI—OFFICERS: Clause (i) After word "President” ADD word "and.” After word “VicePresident” DELETE words “and Honorary Treasurer.” Clause (ii) Para (a) DELETE word "Secretary.” Substitute word “Secretary-Treasurer.” AFTER words “Annual General Meeting" ADD “No member o? the staff of the Association shall be entitled to nominate or second any member for any Executive Office in the Association.” • Para (e) DELETE the word "Secretary.”
