SCOTLAND BEATS AUSTRALIA
“Most Entertaining International” (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 16. The Rugby writers of the "Observer” and the “Sunday Times” applauded the Wallabies today for their showing in the test yesterday against Scotland at Murrayfield. Australia lost 8-12 after leading 8-6 at half-time. The “Observer” said the Australians showed how narrowly they missed being a fine side. Until five minutes from the end they were in almost continuous command. The “Sunday Times” said that for sparkle and continuity of movement the match was easily the most entertaining of the British international season. 1 The Australians, although they have lost all four internationals on the tour, had no reason to reproach themselves yesterday. From first to last they threw everything into the attack and delighted the crowd of 40,000. The game was clean throughout. Australia suffered a misfortune when they lost the centre. White. 15 minutes before the end. The Scottish forwards were very dangerous with the ball on the ground, and the Scottish backs moved cleverly on the blind side and worried the Wallabies with tactical kicking. The scorers were:—Scotland: !'. Weatherstone and G. Stevenson, tries; A. R. Smith, two penalty goals. Australia: J. Thornett and K. Donald, tries; J. Lenehan, goal.
