Women’s Cricket Canterbury Beats Southland

"The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, February 16. The Canterbury women’s cricket team beat the Southland eleven by an innings and 31 runs when the two-day match concluded at Queen’s Park, Invercargill, yesterday. At the end of the first day’s play, Canterbury led by 68 runs with three wickets in hand, and the team added another 15 runs on Saturday morning. In its second innings. Southland was able to score only 66 runs. This was mainly due to some fine bowling by Canterbury’s B. Cattermole, who finished the game with a total of nine wickets for 40. By winning this match, Canterbury have gained the Mary Machin Shield, formerly held by Otago. Scores:— SOUTHLAND
