SOUTH CANTERBURY WIN

Minor Associations’

Trophy (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, February 16. South Canterbury won the Minor Associations’ trophy, for competition between representative cricket teams from Ashburton, West Coast, Buller, and South Canterbury, when it beat Buller decisively by nine wickets in the final, played at Timaru at the week-end. Buller, which was sent in to bat first on a damp and easy-paced pitch, scored 51 and 52, and South Canterbury scored 62 and 43 for one wicket. Bowlers held the ascendancy for most of the match, outstanding figures being returned by M, Marshall (eight for 24) and R. Carter (five for 28) for South Canterbury, and J. Struthers (five for 25) for Buller. The ball was coming through very low at times, and the wicket took considerable turn later on the first day. However, the batting on both sides was weak.
