Leading teams were successful when the ninth round of the Ellesmere Cricket Sub-Association’s' P. V. Bailey Memorial Cup games was played on Saturday. M. Fleming, with an unbeaten 84 for Leeston against Southbridge, was the top scorer of the day. Fleming scored his first 50 in only 37 minutes, and he scored 70 runs off only four overs. His innings Included four sixes and nine fours. M. Chamberlain took seven wickets for 23 runs for Leeston in Southbridge’s first innings, but was less effective in the second Innings. Dunsandel beat Weedons in an evenly contested match * in which P. Buckenham’s bowling performance of seven wickets for 23 runs was noteworthy. The Burnham righthand in-swing bowler, J. Crooks, also took seven wickets in the first innings of his team’s match against Irwell. For Burnham W. Ayers made a sound 55. Points after nine rounds are:— Irwell 33. Dunsandel 31, Leeston 28, Lincoln 22, Weedons 17, Southbridge 16, Burnham 12, Lincoln College 2. Results were:— Leeston 131 for three declared (M. Fleming 84 not out, J. Chamberlain 28, B. Free 11: R. Brown two for 42) beat Southbridge 77 (R. Brears 14, E. Godley 13, T. Ready 11; M. Chamberlain seven for 23, P. Boal two for 4, J. Chamberlain one for 6) and 74 for three (J. Ready 42, J. Hildyard 26; B. Free two for 16. M. Walker one for 12) on the first innings. Dunsandel 106 (R. Knight 23 retired, G. Edge 17 not out. P. Buckenham 15, J. Walker 12; C. Chatterton four for 19, P. Blakley four for 43) beat Weedons 67 (A. Hulston 16; P. Buckenham seven for 23. M. Murray two for 11) on the first innings. Irwell 159 (L. Coe 30. D. Ivorv 43. M. Heslop 30, R. Newton 16, I.
