Annual Tourney At Timaru (New Zealana Press Association! TIMARU, January 20. The South Island watersiders’ annual sports tournament opened in Timaru today with bowling and cricket matches. Teams from Nelson, Westport, Lyttelton, Oamaru, Port Chalmers, Bluff, and Timaru are taking part. Lyttelton and Timaru both won on the first innings in the cricket matches, beating Bluff and Nelson. Top-scorer for the day was V. Richards, who scored 84 for Bluff, and next highest scorers were R. Washington (Lyttelton) 83 and B. Walker (Timaru) 53. The 12 rinks entered in the bowling section set a good standard on fast greens. Results of the bowls were:— First Round.—Patterson (Bluff) 22, Davies (Westport) 13; Mclntyre (Bluff) 27, Grass (Port Chalmers) 16: Hamlyn (Timaru) 23, Tuck (Port Chalmers) 9: Gibbs (Port Chalmers) 20, Taylor (Lyttelton) 16; Harwood (Port Chalmers) 21, Lee (Lyttelton) 12; Jones (Lyttelton) 20, Stuart (Oamaru) 18. Second Round.—Gibbs 15, Stuart 13: Patterson 12. Jones 7; Hamlyn 15, Grass 8: Lee 17, Tuck 9: Davies 13. Taylor 7; Mclntyre 14, Harwood 13. Third Round.—Grass 17. Lee 10: Jones 16, Taylor 12: Harwood 13, Hamlyn 11; Gibbs 21, Patterson 9; Tuck' 17, Mclntyre 8; Davies 10, Stuart 28.
Safe Blown Open.—Thieves took a small sum of money from a safe at the premises of C. W. Price. Ltd., chemists, 135 High street, during the week-end. Entry was gained through a rear window which was forced open, and the safe in the store room was opened] with explosives. I
