Otago strengthened its hold on the Plunket Shield for the 1957-58 season when it beat Central Districts outright by three wickets at Palmerston North today. Needing 28 runs for an outright win with four wickets standing when the match entered its third day. Otago would not be hurried. It took 43 minutes before J. C. Alabaster sent the ball to the boundary for the winning hit, and in the intervening period Central Districts had taken the wicket of A. M. Moir. Sutcliffe, the Otago left-arm spinner. In the first innings of the match against Central Districts, Sutcliffe took five wickets for 19 runs, and now occupies second place in the bowl, ing averages.
