DEPARTURE FOR ANTARCTICA
American Ships Leave \ Lyttelton
About 150 persons assembled on No. 4 wharf at Lyttelton early yesterday morning to see the U.S.S. Ameb and the U.S.S. Greenville Victory leave for Antarctica. Those on the wharf consisted in the main of families with whom some of the sailors had made friends while in port, and young women in parties, couples, and singly. There were many last-minute farewells over the sides of the ships before the men were called to stations for leaving harbour The Arneb, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral G. F. Dufek, moved out first and passed through the moles at 8.30 a.m. The Greenville Victory followed 15 minutes later. The ships turned ddwn the harbour and were soon out of sight This week the Greenville Victory loaded 300 tons of fresh provisions and stores. She will sail to McMurdo Sound. The Ameb’s first call will be Cape Hallett, and from there she will go to Knox Coast
