A feature of .yesterday’s play In the South Island croquet championships in Christchurch was the speed of two games in the championship doubles. Mrs A. L. and J. Hewitson playing Mesdames J. G. Anderson and M. C. Milne, made allround breaks and finished the match 26-0. Mesdames W. H. Kirk and E. Todd also made complete breaks against Mesdames M. Hill and W. Ellis, and their score was also 26-0
In the men’s championship W. Penman, a junior player of great promise, played excellent breaks, including a peel at rover, to beat L. J. Mitchell. Results were:—
Women’s Championship Singles Second Life.—Second round: Mrs W. H. Kirk (St. James) beat Mrs A. L. Bonar (United), 26-2. Third round: Mrs A. J. Thompson (New Plymouth) beat Mrs H. Lattaway (St. James). 26-7. Championship Doubles Second Life.—Second round: Mesdames W. H. Kirk and E. Todd (St. James) beat Mesdames M. Hill and W. Ellis (Linwood), 26-0; Mesdames A. L. Bonar (United) and J. Hewitson (South Brighton) beat Mesdames J. G. Anderson (Dunedin) and M. C. Milne (Methven). 26-0.
Men’s Championship Singles First Life.—First round: W. Penman (South Brighton) beat L. J. Mitchell (Fendalton), 26-7. Second round: H. R. Abbott (Fendalton) beat H. Morgan (United), 26-10. Level Singles First Life. —Third round: Mrs W. Ellis (Linwood) beat Mrs J. Read (St. James), 26-16; Mrs E. O. Burgess (United) beat Mrs R. Stuart (St James), 26-8. Second Life.—Third round: Mrs J. Read (St. James) beat L. J. Mitchell (Fendalton), 26-22.
Handicap Singles First round: H. R. Abbott (1) beat H. Morgan (21), 26-16; Mrs E. Todd (scr) beat Mrs M. G. Brewer (3j), 26-21.
Second round; Mrs C. Ogier (scr) beat Mrs A. L. Bonar (1), 26-12.
