ATHLETICS Three N.Z. Records Made At Auckland

AUCKLAND. December 29. | Some great performances by the New Zealand Empire Games prospects M. G. Halberg, L. R. Mills and Miss Valerie Sloper made the Auckland Games held at Olympic Stadium last night one of the most memorable track and field meetings held here in recent years.

Halberg, in the three miles. Mills in the shot put, and Miss Sloper, also in the shot put, all set new national figures. The weather was fine but the night wind which blew straight down the home stretch was cold and blustery. It failed, however, to deter the production of an exceptionally high level of general all-round performances. In the three miles, the pace was slow for the first 150 yards but soon Increased it was evident early in the race that N. I. Scott and Halberg had the measure of the Olympic 10,000 metre finalist A. Lawrence, of Australia, who had shattered the New Zealand six-mile record last week. In the end both did better
