MAN FOUND DEAD IN RIVER

(New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, October 20. A man who for the last 25 years had lived alone in a oneroom hut on the banks of the Te Ngawai river near the TimaruFairlie highway, five miles east of Cave, was found dead in the river about a chain from his hut on Saturday morning. He was Mr William Walker, aged 79. It is thought that Mr Walker, who had failing sight, slipped down a bank near his hut and was swept by the current into deep water.
