President’s Gift Portrait

(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, October 19. A head and shoulders portrait of Prince Charles, painted by President Eisenhower from a 5 by 7in print and a batch of magazine photographs, was among an exchange of gifts between the President and Queen Elizabeth at the White House last night. A gift from the Queen to the President and Mrs Eisenhower was a pair of porcelain birds made at the Royal Worcester factory in England. At the White House tomorrow, the President will present the Queen with a collection of headquarters papers of the British Army in America during the War of Independence. The White House press secretary announced that these papers, valued by collectors at 500,000 dollars would be presented on behalf of Williamsburg. Among the manuscripts are 69 letters which Washington addressed in his own hand to British commanders.
